No consensus on amendment to raise NY judge retirement age to 80

A proposal on the November ballot in New York State to allow some judges to serve until they are 80 years old is not drawing a lot of support, and one court expert says that’s a shame.

Lawmakers race to keep ahead of house lifting boom

After Superstorm Sandy communities high and dry for as long as anyone can remember suddenly found themselves under eight feet of water.  Post Sandy, a booming business in New York and New Jersey is house lifting.  Picking a house up and setting it on stilts or a higher foundation to protect it from a future storm surge.  But the rush to lift houses has regulators scurrying to catch up.

Conn., N.Y Attorneys General argue against same-sex marriage bans in other states

The Attorneys General of Connecticut, New York and a dozen other states filed a brief Friday with a federal appeals court, arguing that same-sex marriage bans in Nevada and Hawaii are unconstitutional.

Stamford mayoral candidates meet in last debate before election

The last debate of Stamford candidates for mayor took place at the Ferguson Library on Thursday evening. Candidates Michael Fedele, Kathleen Murphy, David Martin and John Zito  and  answered questions about the city budget, how they'd staff their cabinet, how Stamford should protect itself against future storms,  medical marijuana and other topics. The debate was sponsored by the League of Women Voters.
