Power failure stifles morning commute between Stamford and NYC; Limited service back up

Commuters heading between Connecticut and New York can expect significant rail and highway delays.

Metro-North Railroad says service is extremely limited on the New Haven line between Stamford and Grand Central Terminal due to a problem with a Con Edison cable feeder.

Con Ed says the railroad was doing work on the Mount Vernon substation when the feeder cable failed. The utility's crews are on the scene.

Conn. considering insurance for family & medical leave

A Connecticut task force is considering creating a plan for family medical leave insurance in the state. When workers take off time using the Family and Medical Leave Act, they aren't paid. An insurance plan would cover those times. The task force will file a report on the idea by October, 2014.

Connecticut's U.S. Senators say they are pushing to have Congress consider another gun violence prevention bill before the end of this legislative session.  Senators Chris Murphy and Richard Blumenthal held a roundtable in Bridgeport on Monday with about a dozen family members of gun violence victims, community activists and law enforcement.
