US Senator Kirsten Gillibrand of New York is moving forward on her effort to strip senior military commanders of their authority to investigate and prosecute sexual assaults. After her proposal failed in an emotional Senate vote last week Gillibrand says she will make another push in six to nine months.

First-term Stamford Mayor David Martin is proposing a tax increase of 1.17 mills or nearly 5 percent for the 2014-15 budget year. Martin is presenting his budget to the city’s Board of Finance Monday night. The mayor says his $515 million budget includes funding to fix longstanding structural issues.
Some Connecticut lawmakers say they are struggling over whether to support proposed legislation that would limit public access to 911 audio tapes. The legislation would also limit access to crime scene photos and law enforcement audio recordings in homicide cases. However, the proposal is less restrictive than a law that was passed last year in response to the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre. Supporters and opponents of the proposal made their case to lawmakers on Monday.
