As expected, turnout for today’s primary elections in Connecticut has been light.

There are a dozen General Assembly seats, some registrars of voters and some probate judges being challenged in the primaries.

Travel Precautions To Thwart Zika Spread

Long Islanders who have traveled to regions affected by the Zika outbreak are being urged to take precautions when they return so the disease is not transmitted locally. 

Susan Donelan, assistant professor of epidemiology at Stony Brook University, says she’s not worried about infected mosquitoes making their way up from South America, but of people who have been bitten and carrying Zika making their way back to the area.

Long Island Bike Path Plan Moving Forward

A long-standing plan to convert the abandoned Long Island Rail Road line between Port Jefferson and Wading River into a bike trail is finally moving forward. On Tuesday Congressman Lee Zeldin, R-NY1, announced that 80 percent of the $9.5 million dollar project will be federally funded.

Closing arguments have begun in a trial over whether Connecticut adequately funds its public schools.

A coalition of municipalities, education groups, parents and students sued in 2005, saying the state was violating the Connecticut constitution by not providing enough aid to municipalities to allow them to properly educate students. The coalition cited vast differences in test results between rich and poor towns.
