Environmentalists helping Stamford defend itself against BLT lawsuit

Environmentalists have intervened in a lawsuit by Norwalk-based developer Building and Land Technology against the city of Stamford. 

BLT was ordered to stop work on 14 acres of waterfront property after they tore down an existing boatyard there.

That site has been contentious because it’s where BLT and Governor Dannel Malloy wanted to relocate the world's largest hedge fund Bridgewater Associates.  

BLT is suing over the city's Board of Appeals decision to uphold a 2012 stop work order.

NEON files for Chapter 7 bankruptcy, new agency may arise

The acting CEO of Norwalk Economic Opportunity Now, or NEON, says the anti-poverty agency has filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy.

The Reverend Tommie Jackson says it filed with the federal bankruptcy court in Bridgeport last week. 

Jackson says it was clear when he took over in late 2013 that the agency's debt of $4,000,000 and assets of less than $500,000 would make a turnaround near impossible.

This weekend, nearly 30 teenage girls from Connecticut are headed to Washington state to compete in the national competition of synchronized swimming. The team, from New Canaan, is one of the top in the country in a sport that not many people know much about.

Stamford needs to start with own state legislators to get school backing

Now that the Martin administration has gotten the necessary approvals to apply for a state funding grant for an interdistrict magnet PreK-5 school, it will be up to lawmakers to ultimately decide if they'll lift a state moratorium or allow the application to be processed as an expansion of an existing school. Legislative members of Stamford's own state delegation say they haven't yet taken a position.

Everton, the English Premier League Club, has set up academies in Norwalk, Connecticut and Westchester, New York. They're drawing some international attention and other Premier League clubs may be following suit.
