U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut visited a New Haven school on Monday and spoke with classmates of Javier Martinez, who was killed by gunfire in December. The students said they want to do something to prevent more gun violence.

State budget "OK" for Long Island schools

Albany lawmakers are voting on a blizzard of budget bills that were hammered out over the weekend. The budget includes money for a property tax rebate for homeowners and a number of education initiatives. While many are satisfied with the education funding some more satisfied than others.

Educators on Long Island say the number of students and parents opting-out of taking standardized state tests this week is growing. The numbers are so high the tests could be deemed invalid.

NY lawmakers and Gov. Cuomo reach budget agreement

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo and state lawmakers have agreed to a $137 billion dollar state budget. The agreement includes a limited pilot program for public campaign financing that would  apply only   to the state Comptroller’s race.

Museum plans to update permanent exhibitions

Conn. bond funds include $1.1M for exhibits at Discovery Museum & Planetarium

Connecticut’s state bonding commission approved more than $40 million in borrowing on Friday. The bonding includes 1-point-1 million dollars for facility and exhibit improvements at the Discovery Museum and Planetarium in Bridgeport.
