Poll finds New Yorkers embarrassed by Weiner and Spitzer

A new poll finds most New Yorkers are embarrassed by the candidacies of Anthony Weiner and Eliot Spitzer for Mayor and Comptroller of New York City. The Siena College poll also finds that Governor Cuomo, in contrast, is enjoying a minor rebound with voters.

Connecticut Governor Dannel Malloy says the state will begin collecting applications for federal Superstorm Sandy assistance no later than Sept 1. The governor visited a beach in Milford and a public housing complex in Norwalk damaged by the storm with US Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Shaun Donovan on Monday.

Hundreds attend East Haven vigil for plane crash victims

About 400 people gathered Saturday evening in a park in the heart of East Haven for a vigil to pray for the family of the two children killed on Friday when a small plane crashed into their house, about a half mile from Tweed New Haven Airport.

Investigators from the National Transportation Safety Board have released more details about Friday's plane crash in East Haven, Connecticut. Two children, 13-year-old Sade Brantley, and 1-year-old Madisyn Mitchell, were killed in their home when the plane crashed into it. The plane's pilot, former Microsoft Executive Bill Henningsgaard, and his teenage son Maxwell also died in the crash.

Newtown group objects to pro-gun gathering at local Starbucks

Gun rights advocates around the country plan to spend money at Starbucks stores today to show support for the coffee chain's policy of allowing customers to carry hand guns inside their stores. Gun control activists are trying to discourage any gatherings in Newtown, where 20 elementary school students and 6 educators were killed during a mass shooting in December.
