After Superstorm Sandy communities high and dry for as long as anyone can remember suddenly found themselves under eight feet of water. Post Sandy, a booming business in New York and New Jersey is house lifting. Picking a house up and setting it on stilts or a higher foundation to protect it from a future storm surge. But the rush to lift houses has regulators scurrying to catch up.
The Attorneys General of Connecticut, New York and a dozen other states filed a brief Friday with a federal appeals court, arguing that same-sex marriage bans in Nevada and Hawaii are unconstitutional.
For the first time New York's Education commissioner John King is signaling there may be too much state testing. King sent a letter to school administrators across the state Thursday saying that he will push to end at least one state test.
