Last year, 122 people on Long Island died from heroin overdoses. Lawmakers have labeled it an epidemic, and the Suffolk County District Attorney has started calling the Long Island Expressway the Heroin Highway. The University of Connecticut is officially recognizing the new union that will represent more than 2,100 graduate assistants working on UConn campuses. The State Board of Labor Relations determined on Thursday that more than 50% of the graduate4 students had signed the petition seeking collective bargaining rights.
