During his nomination speech yesterday, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo mentioned Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone very briefly before moving to heap praise on his choice for lieutenant governor, former upstate congresswoman Kathy Hochul.  

Bellone was often mentioned as a possibly lieutenant governor but a lot of things stood in the way, not the least of which was that Bellone wasn’t interested.

Stamford-based Starwood Hotels & Resorts to get state funding to expand jobs

Connecticut Governor Dannel Malloy says Stamford-based Starwood Hotels & Resorts will receive a state loan of up to 5 million dollars and up to 20 million dollars in tax credits. In exchange, the company will add jobs in Connecticut.

Democrat Malloy responds to Republican Foley's accusation of cuts to education funding

Connecticut’s Democratic Governor Dannel Malloy responded on Wednesday to his Republican opponent Tom Foley’s accusation that state spending on schools and municipalities has declined over the last three years. Foley made the accusation when he accepted his party’s endorsement at the GOP convention on Saturday and repeated it on television the next day.

Undocumented students push Malloy to change rules to allow for financial aid

A group of students who were brought to the U.S. illegally as children are pressuring Connecticut Governor Dannel Malloy to take executive action to make them eligible for institutional college financial aid.  Malloy doesn’t know if he can legally do that.

Conn. launches voter registration app

Connecticut Secretary of the State Denise Merrill says state residents with valid driver’s licenses can now register to vote using an app on their smartphones and tablets.  The app can be downloaded here.
