Its official, Chemung County, New York, Sheriff Chris Moss will be the first African American GOP candidate to run for lieutenant governor of the state. New York Republicans nominated Moss for the post at their party convention on Thursday.

An experiment in stopping erosion in Stratford - reef balls

There’s a peculiar looking sight off the shoreline of Stratford, Connecticut these days.  Sitting just above the low tide line are 2 rows of about 60 concrete domes with big holes in them – each one kind of like a 15-hundred-pound piece of calcified swiss cheese. These are a type of artificial reef called reef balls. Its purpose is to stop erosion. But  it comes with one big question – will it work?

Suffolk tables plan to warn of "outrageous" fees

The Suffolk County Legislature voted down a controversial measure Tuesday night. It would have required gas stations to notify motorists when there's a large disparity between cash purchases compared to credit card transactions.

DA investigating "multiple" asbestos dumpings

Suffolk County District Attorney Tom Spota announced Tuesday he is investigating the possibility of more illegal dumping sites in the town of Islip that may contain hazardous materials. Spota says it’s possible the new sites are connected to the dumping at Roberto Clemente Park where 32,000 tons of asbestos-laden material was dumped.
