Chefs at the submarine base in Groton, Connecticut competed on Thursday in a Food Network-style competition. It was their version of the show Chopped, where chefs have to make meals from baskets of secret and sometimes strange ingredients against the stopwatch.
Danbury Mayor Mark Boughton has dropped out of the group Mayors Against Illegal Guns. Boughton, who is running for governor of Connecticut, made the announcement on his campaign website on Wednesday. The Republican said he joined the group started by former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg because he believes the enforcement of existing gun laws is preferable to creating new gun laws. He says he believes in recent months Bloomberg's mission has changed from law enforcement to simply increasing gun regulations.

A bill that would hold colleges responsible for preventing sexual assaults on campus passed unanimously on Thursday in the Connecticut House of Representatives. The bill was prompted by a federal lawsuit filed by five women against the University of Connecticut.
