Malloy lists upcoming transportation projects

Connecticut Governor Dannel Malloy announced the major projects planned for this year's construction season today. Malloy spoke at a rainy news conference along Interstate-84 in Waterbury, and said widening the I-84 corridor there is one of several projects that will share about $1.8 billion in state and federal transportation funds. Other projects include replacing the Q-Bridge in New Haven along I-95, rehabilitating a portion of the Merritt Parkway in Stamford and making various improvements along I-95 in Norwalk. U.S.

Despite major efforts the last few years to convert Connecticut homes to solar power, it’s turned out that the vast majority of them aren’t suitable for it. State lawmakers this session are considering legislation that would help those folks get solar power anyway - without actually having it at their homes.

Bill to ban fracking waste from Conn. passes state legislative committee

A bill that would prohibit the storage or disposal of hydraulic fracking waste in Connecticut got the approval of a key legislative committee on Monday. Lawmakers on the state General Assembly’s Judiciary Committee voted 34 to 6 to move the bill forward.

Bellone hikes age to buy tobacco

Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone signed a  law on Monday increasing the minimum age for buying tobacco and e-cigarettes from 19 to 21 years old. The law was pushed by health advocates who say it will reduce youth’s access to cigarettes.
