Bridgeport native Alvin Clinkscales, formerly with Harlem Globetrotters, remembered

A former member of the renowned Harlem Globetrotters basketball team died this week.  Some also knew Connecticut's Alvin Clinkscales as the first black high school coach in state.  Many called him a  mentor and friend.

Artist Chuck Close mentors Bridgeport elementary school students

An unusual art exhibit opened in Bridgeport, Connecticut last night. It features the work of world-renowned painter Chuck Close. And next to his paintings hang the work of Bridgeport elementary school students. The exhibit comes out of a collaboration Close has had with a Bridgeport school, as part of a the national Turnaround Arts Initiative to bring art to disadvantaged kids.

Playgrounds honor the memory of Sandy Hook victims

Hundreds of volunteers are gathered Thursday at a small park in South Norwalk to build a playground in honor of six year old Allison Wyatt. The playground is one of 26 being built by the program The Sandy Ground: Where Angels Play, in memory of the victims of the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School.

Conn. opens first in the nation health insurance storefront

On Thursday Connecticut opened the first storefront in the nation to help people sign-up for health insurance under the Affordable Care Act. The storefront is in New Britain.

Suffolk County passes controversial budget

The Suffolk County legislature passed its 2014 budget Wednesday. The budget raises property taxes in the five western towns, puts more law enforcement on the streets, and borrows some $90 million dollars to cover pension costs.  The spending plan brought intense last-minute criticism from environmental advocates who say it “pillages” $33 million intended for water quality protection
