Documentary highlights struggle for men with breast cancer

This month is unofficially known as Pinktober as organizations raise awareness and money for women with breast cancer. But the pink image doesn't show the full picture.

Breast Cancer is not a gender specific disease.  The American Cancer Society estimates that over 2,200 men across the country will be diagnosed this year. And because typically men are diagnosed at a later stage, men succumb to the disease at a higher rate than women.

In an effort to save lives, two men with breast cancer in Connecticut are advocating for more  awareness and research.

Independent budget analysts for the Suffolk County Legislature say County Executive Steve Bellone's budget next year has a potential $50-million hole in it.  But the analysts say it makes the best of the county’s fiscal problems that have built up over the years.

A poll released on Monday finds the positive wording of a November ballot amendment to expand gambling in New York State is influencing voters.  The poll finds a majority of New York voters support the amendment.

Apple picking looking better than last year's lousy season

It's another beautiful fall weekend, and for a lot of us that means an opportunity for apple picking. Last year was a terrible fall for the northeast’s apple harvest, and some orchards didn’t open for public picking at all. WSHU’s Craig LeMoult spoke with Brian Kelliher, chairman of the Connecticut Apple Marketing Board and the owner of Easy Pickens Orchard in Enfield, about how things are looking this year.

2nd LI man arrested on terrosim charges

The US Attorney’s Office arrested a Brentwood, Long Island man this morning on charges of attempting to join Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula.   This is the second similar arrest this year.
