LIRR's 'Darth Vader' yet to make snow debut

Dubbed "Darth Vader" this $1.5 million train has so far only been used to dig ditches.

Even with all the snow on Long Island this week, the Long Island Rail Road still hasn't called out its secret snow-clearing weapon.  In fact, said snow weapon hasn't seen active snow duty yet.

NY launches investigation into student debt relief industry with subpoenas

New York’s  newly formed Student Protection Unit has launched an investigation into the student debt relief industry. Led by the state Department of Financial Services, it’s designed to be a consumer watchdog for New York students. The unit issued subpoenas to 13 companies Wednesday in its first official action.

Conn. US Senators are concerned health insurers are dropping doctors from Medicare Advantage

Connecticut’s two US senators are concerned a major insurance company is jeopardizing the welfare of patients by dropping doctors from its Medicare Advantage program.  The senators held a hearing in Hartford on Wednesday to look into further regulation of health insurance companies that participate in the program.

Cuomo budget looks at universal pre-k and cutting taxes

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo released his state budget  on Tuesday. The $137.2 billion spending plan includes more money for schools , including a phase-in of funding for universal pre-kindergarten programs. It would also freeze property taxes for two years, if local governments cooperate.
