Conn. US Senators are concerned health insurers are dropping doctors from Medicare Advantage

Connecticut’s two US senators are concerned a major insurance company is jeopardizing the welfare of patients by dropping doctors from its Medicare Advantage program.  The senators held a hearing in Hartford on Wednesday to look into further regulation of health insurance companies that participate in the program.

Cuomo budget looks at universal pre-k and cutting taxes

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo released his state budget  on Tuesday. The $137.2 billion spending plan includes more money for schools , including a phase-in of funding for universal pre-kindergarten programs. It would also freeze property taxes for two years, if local governments cooperate.

Conn. man remembers a murder that changed course of the civil rights movement

Almost 50 years ago, a Hartford man was part of an event that changed the course of the civil rights movement.  Leroy Moton was born in Selma, Alabama.  As a teenager, he worked with Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.  in Alabama. He told reporter Sara Karl one of the most difficult and powerful things he saw during that volatile time was the brutal murder of civil rights activist Viola Liuzzo. That murder, he says, had a profound impact on the movement, and on him.

Health group praises NY Health exchange, some concerns

A health policy group has given New York's Department of Health a mostly glowing review of its rollout of the new health insurance exchange program.  But the group is worried the department hasn’t completely figured out the systems for paying doctors and hospitals.
