Conn. insurance exchange trying to answer questions as it reaches out to customers

The chief marketing officer for Connecticut's health insurance exchange says over 6,600 leads have been generated as of last week due to recent outreach efforts, including informational sessions across the state.

About 50 people took part in one of those informational sessions, which the exchange calls "healthy chats" on Thursday night in New Haven.

Courts make case for more civil legal aid

New York’s top judge is holding hearings this week on the benefit of providing civil legal services to the poor.  A US Supreme Court case guaranteed legal counsel to people accused of crimes, but that same right is not given to people going through civil court.  New York courts are trying to change that.

Labor numbers show some gains, some losses in Conn. and Long Island

The Connecticut Labor Department says the state’s unemployment rate in August remained unchanged from July at 8.1 percent. The report shows a loss of 6,000 jobs, but the Labor Department says that's because of a miscalculation last month in their seasonal adjustment of the labor numbers.  Long Island’s private sector lost 600 jobs in August compared to July. But the New York Department of Labor says that’s an improvement in the long-term. Over the prior 10 Augusts, the losses averaged 3,000.

Census data: Conn., LI still not recovering from recession

The US Census Bureau is releasing data from its annual American Community Survey on Thursday morning.  It shows a region still not recovering from the recession and housing bust of 2008.  WSHU's Charles Lane on Long Island and Craig LeMoult in Connecticut had a look at the data and have this report.
