It's summertime and on Saturday nights on Long Island there are demolition derbies.  Cars wrecking cars for the pure thrill of it.  WSHU's Charles Lane recently went to a "demo" at Riverhead Raceway and he found out Long Island is the legendary home of the demolition derby.  He brought back this audio postcard.

A piece of Long Island infrastructure is, right now, floating down the Carolina coast. an electromagnetic particle storage ring used at Brookhaven National Lab is being shipped to another nation lab 3,200 miles away. It left last week.

Police from Massachusetts and Connecticut have searched a home in Bristol, Connecticut with links to former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez. Hernandez starred at Bristol Central High School, graduating in 2007 as one of the nation's top prospects. He's now been charged in the shooting death of a semi-pro football player from Boston.
