Thanks to financial support from 18,950 listeners, WSHU finished the 2012 fiscal year with $2,336,339 in membership contributions. That generosity, along with support from underwriters, institutions, and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, made what we do possible.
This year costs continued to increase, especially in our costs for purchased programs, and the amortized cost of the acquisition of WSTC and WNLK, the added membership money allowed WSHU to keep pace; WSHU closed Fiscal Year 2012 with an operating loss of $194,106. WSHU is grateful for your support, and looks forward to a successful year of quality public radio programs for the Connecticut and Long Island area.
As Noted in the following financial statements, WSHU booked in-kind income of $146,030 from Sacred Heart University. This value was derived from formulas provided by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting and itemizes a share of security, maintenance, and administrative cost of the University less the payments WSHU makes to Sacred Heart University. In addition, we booked $36,788 of donated products and services, most of which are tickets, CD, and books used as premiums (thank-you gifts) for membership drives. The following charts show income and expenses net of these in-kind items.
