Connecticut Lawmakers Back Stricter Gun Control Laws

A coalition of lawmakers, including Bridgeport Mayor Joe Ganim and U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., gathered alongside community activists at Bridgeport City Hall on Friday to call for increased gun control measures, including legislation that would ban bump stocks and ghost guns in Connecticut.

On Monday the draft of a controversial plan to consolidate Connecticut’s 12 community colleges into one school will be reviewed by the Academic Affairs Committee of the State’s university system.

A draft of a controversial plan to consolidate Connecticut’s 12 community colleges was released online on Thursday. The plan includes cuts in jobs and spending in an effort to save the college system $28 million.

DREAMers and those displaced by Hurricane Maria piled into U.S. Representative Jim Himes’ office in Bridgeport on Tuesday. They want Himes to push Congress to give more aid to Puerto Rico and to secure a clean DREAM Act, legislation that creates a path to citizenship for immigrant youth that stands on its own, and is not tied to funding for a border wall or other immigration enforcement measure.
