NY environmental commissioner: Fracking likely delayed for at least a year

One day after President Obama touted the hydro fracking of natural gas as a “bridge fuel,” New York's   environmental commissioner says it’s “extremely unlikely” that permits for drilling wells will be issued in the next year.

New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Commissioner Joe Martens testifies during a joint legislative budget hearing on the environment on Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2014, in Albany, N.Y. Martens says his agency has “absolutely no plans” to issue permits for shale gas drilling and fracking in the 2014-15 fiscal year.
