Marking 100th birthday with a swim for charity

Margaret Wachs was joined in the water by her daughter Elaine Matto, granddaughter Amy Weintraub, and great granddaughter Natalie Johaneson.

On an ordinary recent Friday at the Woodruff Family YMCA in Milford, Connecticut, Margaret Wachs got in the pool to swim 10 laps.  What was extraordinary was that it was her 100th birthday.

Connecticut Governor Dannel Malloy says the state will begin collecting applications for federal Superstorm Sandy assistance no later than Sept 1. The governor visited a beach in Milford and a public housing complex in Norwalk damaged by the storm with US Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Shaun Donovan on Monday.

Malloy joins Milford officials in condemning klan flier

Fliers from the United Klans of America, an Alabama white supremacist group, have been found on driveways in Milford, Connecticut this week. Governor Dannel Malloy joined local officials in condemning the fliers on Wednesday.
