Connecticut Democratic Governor Dannel Malloy’s administration is pushing back on Republican criticism that its prisoner early release program is making the state unsafe. GOP candidates campaigning for governor had accused Democratic incumbent Malloy of letting violent felons out to "roam our streets" under the Risk Reduction Earned Credits program for inmates. Malloy’s criminal justice advisor Mike Lawlor said this is not the case.

Officials in Stamford, Connecticut are calling a downtown shooting that left five injured this past weekend ‘random,’ but pledge more police protection in the future. 

Governor Dannel Malloy announced what he called a dramatic turnaround at the Connecticut state police crime lab on Wednesday. He says a national accreditation board has found compliance at the Meriden lab in every category and no negative findings.

Attorneys for a former teacher at Stamford’s Yerwood Center and the center itself appeared in Stamford Superior Court Monday. Bonnie Campbell of Stamford charges the center is seeking to illegally shut down federally-funded programs. 

Overall crime rates in Connecticut are down to a level last seen in 1968. Governor Dannel Malloy’s criminal justice advisor announced this to state lawmakers in Hartford on Friday.
