Malloy signs $400M tax credit deal for UTC

Connecticut Governor Dannel Malloy signed a law Friday  establishing a $400 million tax credit deal with United Technologies Corporation. The company can redeem the earned research and development tax credits at an accelerated rate. In return, UTC must spend up to $500 million to upgrade and expand facilities at Pratt & Whitney in East Hartford, Sikorsky in Stratford and UTC Aerospace in Windsor Locks.

A Quinnipiac University Poll released on Friday finds Connecticut Democratic Governor Dannel Malloy deadlocked in a hypothetical reelection rematch with Republican challenger Tom Foley. The poll finds Malloy and Foley tied at 43 percent each, no change from a Q Poll released in March.

Connecticut Governor Dannel Malloy said Thursday the legislative session that just ended has improved the state’s financial footing. The Democratic Governor says he’s proud lawmakers in his party passed a budget that was balanced and did not raise taxes. With an eye towards the upcoming gubernatorial election, Malloy pledged not to raise taxes if re-elected. Republican House Minority Leader Larry Cafero says he doesn't believe that promise.

A new federal assessment gave Connecticut high schoolers high marks in reading and math. The state still sees a performance gap based on race, but the new results show some improvements in that area.
