Bill to ban fracking waste from Conn. passes state legislative committee

A bill that would prohibit the storage or disposal of hydraulic fracking waste in Connecticut got the approval of a key legislative committee on Monday. Lawmakers on the state General Assembly’s Judiciary Committee voted 34 to 6 to move the bill forward.

Study: Chemicals from fracking could impact hormones

Hydro-fracking is used in many natural gas wells around the country, where millions of gallons of water, sand, and chemicals are pumped under the ground  to break apart rock and release gas.

A study  published on Monday in the Journal of Endocrinology  found hormone disrupting activity in the water at drill sites where spills had occurred.

Cuomo doesn't expect decision on fracking until November election or later

NY environmental group gives Sen. Klein dubious "award"

An environmental group has given Senate Independent Democratic Leader Jeff Klein its 2013 Oil Slick award, claiming the Senate Co-leader has done more than any other state legislator to harm the environment. 

Note:  A spokesman for Senator Klein reacted to the ranking, calling it “another cheap gimmick brought to you by the tea party of the left.” He said Klein not only opposes hydrofracking outright, but has been endorsed by nearly every environmental group in every election he has ever run in.

  A Binghamton, New York Assemblywoman who is on Governor Andrew Cuomo administration's hydro fracking advisory panel is asking for a do-over of an ongoing health review. She says the secretive process has compromised public confidence.
