Fracktivists, as anti-fracking activists are called, hope to play a role in New York’s presidential primary. Activists are asking Democrats Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders, as well as Republican candidates, to take a stand against the Constitution Pipeline and other natural gas pipelines, that if approved could crisscross the state.

At its regular legislative meeting, Suffolk County lawmakers moved to ban the use of hydrofracking waste and to ban smoking on the campus of the county Community College.  Lawmakers also heard arguments about a bill that would ban the sale of puppies coming from so-called puppy mills.  

A bill that would prohibit the storage or disposal of hydraulic fracking waste in Connecticut got the approval of a key legislative committee on Monday. Lawmakers on the state General Assembly’s Judiciary Committee voted 34 to 6 to move the bill forward.

Hydro-fracking is used in many natural gas wells around the country, where millions of gallons of water, sand, and chemicals are pumped under the ground  to break apart rock and release gas.

A study  published on Monday in the Journal of Endocrinology  found hormone disrupting activity in the water at drill sites where spills had occurred.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo says he may not decide whether the sate should go ahead with hydro-fracking for natural gas until after the November 2014 elections.
