The Village of Islandia on Long Island has introduced a bill allowing gaming facilities in the Village’s commercial and industrial district. This comes after a court ruled the Village acted improperly when it approved an OTB casino at Jake’s 58 Hotel last year. Critics say the Village is trying to get around the ruling.

The Suffolk County Village of Islandia will have a contested election for the first time in over a decade. Concern over the Jake’s 58 Video Lottery Terminal casino at the former Marriott has led opponents to field a ticket against the mayor and two trustees.

The Islandia Village Board passed a $4.4 million budget for next year. It will reduce property taxes by 25 percent, and increase spending. The budget relies on revenue from the casino at the Islandia Marriott Hotel…that is not yet finished.

Construction is underway on a new Video Lottery Terminal casino in the Marriott Hotel in Islandia, Long Island. Delaware North, the company that recently bought the hotel, expects the casino to open in December, but opponents of the casino say the company is taking a big risk.
