Connecticut Governor Dannel Malloy presented a revised $19 billion budget proposal to state lawmakers today on the first day of their new legislative session. The proposal includes a $55 gas and sales tax refund to taxpayers, and tax breaks for retired teachers, as well as the expansion of rental subsidies for seniors, housing for homeless veterans and an expansion of early childhood education. WSHU’s Ebong Udoma was in Harford for the Governor's speech, and spoke live from there with Mark Herz.

Connecticut officials and community leaders commemorated Martin Luther King Jr. Day at a state Capitol ceremony on Monday. It’s the 28th year the state has officially celebrated the holiday.

Danbury Mayor Boughton announces run for Governor

Danbury Mayor Mark Boughton announced on Wednesday that he will once again run for Governor of Connecticut as a Republican candidate.

In announcing his candidacy, the former state representative and seven-term mayor challenged Democratic Governor Dannel Malloy’s economic record.

The leader of the Republican minority in the Connecticut Senate wants Democratic Governor Dannel Malloy to call state lawmakers into special session immediately. The GOP leader wants lawmakers to change state law in order to implement President Obama’s fix to the Affordable Care Act.

Connecticut Treasurer Denise Nappier announced on Thursday that the first sale of $560.4 million is going to cost the state 3.01% in interest  and it will have 15 years to pay it back. Nappier says the second wave of $314.3 million has a shorter maturity and will cost the state .5%  in interest.
