Candidates for New York's hotly contested first congressional districts filed campaign finance disclosures yesterday and it looks like another wealthy candidate is flooding the district with money.

New York Republicans have submitted legislation to halt Common Core.  This is the latest attack against the new, more rigorous school testing standards and goes further than other reforms offered to date.

New York State Senator Charles Fuschillo resigned effective midnight Tuesday.  In a surprise statement posted to his web site, the 7-term Republican from Merrick says he will become CEO of the Alzheimer's Foundation of America.  Fuschillo's departure leaves both the state senate and Long Island in a precarious situation.

  Long Island State Senator Lee Zeldin announced Monday he will challenge Tim Bishop for Congress next year.  The district they are fighting over is one of the most competitive districts in the country.
