The Long Island Railroad has surpassed Metro North as the busiest commuter railroad in the country. The LIRR increased its ridership in 2013 by two percent, compared to 0.7 percent for Metro North.

Some Connecticut officials are angry with Metro North Railroad for failing to inform local authorities after they suspected a train struck something last Thursday. The body of a 46-year-old woman from Maine was discovered floating in the Saugatuck River in Westport a day after the incident. She’s believed to have been struck by the train.

U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut is calling on federal officials to conduct an expedited investigation into Sunday's train derailment on Metro North's Hudson line, which killed 4 people and injured more than 60.

Blumenthal cited recent incidents that impacted Connecticut commuters on the New Haven Line in his call to action.

  Jim  Cameron, long time advocate for rail commuters, has announced that he'll resign.

A Metro-North Railroad official told federal regulators on Wednesday that the commuter line is behind schedule on some of its maintenance and has not updated certain standards in years.

On May 17 in Bridgeport, an eastbound train derailed and was struck by a westbound train, injuring 76 people. Eleven days later, a track worker was struck and killed by a train in West Haven.
