Blumenthal calls for expedited investigation into derailment

U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut is calling on federal officials to conduct an expedited investigation into Sunday's train derailment on Metro North's Hudson line, which killed 4 people and injured more than 60.

Blumenthal cited recent incidents that impacted Connecticut commuters on the New Haven Line in his call to action.

Metro-North official testifies railroad behind in maintenance

A Metro-North Railroad official told federal regulators on Wednesday that the commuter line is behind schedule on some of its maintenance and has not updated certain standards in years.

On May 17 in Bridgeport, an eastbound train derailed and was struck by a westbound train, injuring 76 people. Eleven days later, a track worker was struck and killed by a train in West Haven.

MTA arrests 4 in LIRR skimming scam

Even to discerning eyes, skimming devices aren't easy to spot.  Especially when you're rushing to make a train.  The MTA and the Nassau County DA's office say they have arrested four people on charges of stealing credit card information by using so-called skimming devices at LIRR stations.  Thousands of credit and debit card numbers were found during the arrests.  Authorities allege a married couple and two accomplices rigged nine ticket vending machines in Nassau County with scanners capable of reading card information.

Conn. senators say Metro-North and ConEdison are not doing enough to prevent future power failures

Connecticut’s two US Senators say Metro-North Railroad and New York utility ConEdison are not doing enough to prevent power problems like the one that disrupted service along the busy commuter rail line last month. The senators heard from the top officials at the two companies on Monday.
