Independent budget analysts for the Suffolk County Legislature say County Executive Steve Bellone's budget next year has a potential $50-million hole in it.  But the analysts say it makes the best of the county’s fiscal problems that have built up over the years.

New York State's comptroller says he has money to invest in startup companies and entrepreneurs. The money is being invested through a partnership between the state’s pension fund and private equity managers.

For the first time since the recession began, New York's pension fund has announced that local governments will be able to contribute slightly less money to their employees' retirement payments.
