The people who sponsored a recent business competition for female entrepreneurs were surprised by the number of women who signed up. And in the end, no one was more surprised by the results than the winner.

Connecticut Congressman Jim Himes, a Greenwich Democrat, and his Republican challenger, State Representative John Shaban of Redding, clashed over the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade deal Monday night at the World Affairs Forum debate in Stamford.

According to the Human Rights Campaign’s 2016 Municipal Equality Index, Stamford is the most LGBT-friendly community in Connecticut. The Index grades how well local laws and policies promote inclusion of LGBT people, and Stamford was the only city in Connecticut to receive a perfect score of 100.

Wednesday was International Overdose Awareness Day, and Wednesday evening several vigils were held around Connecticut for drug overdose victims. More than 700 people in Connecticut died of drug overdoses in 2015, most from opioids like heroin or painkillers.
