Classical Music Highlights

From WSHU's daytime and evening classical programs, Kate Remington and Lauren Rico give you a heads-up on some of the best music they've selected.

Tchaikovsky was one of Mozart's biggest fans.  This morning we'll enjoy a suite he wrote using his own arrangements of his favorite pieces by Mozart.

When he first arrived in this country from Europe, Lukas Foss was blown away by the vast openness of the Midwestern Prairie.  That sense of space was the inspiration for his Capriccio.  We'll enjoy it tonight.

Even though the weather is less than cooperative, we'll welcome Spring's arrival today with a bouquet of spring-time pieces, including Rick Sowash's suite, Sunny Days.

An Evening Serenade

Mar 19, 2015

Joaquin Rodrigo envisioned his Concierto Serenata for harp as an evening serenade by a band of street musicians.  We'll enjoy it tonight.

Grammy-winning Jason Vieaux is coming to the Long Island Guitar Festival next month, and we'll look forward to his performance with a little something from his new album with harpist Yolanda Kondinassis.
