Classical Music Highlights

From WSHU's daytime and evening classical programs, Kate Remington and Lauren Rico give you a heads-up on some of the best music they've selected.

    Both Beethoven and Handel were brilliant improvisers, as we'll hear in the variations they wrote on simple melodies in the "Eroica" Symphony, and the Harmonious Blacksmith.

George Chadwick borrowed a comfy hammock during his vacation on Nantucket to write his Quintet for Piano and Strings.  We'll enjoy it this morning.  

Tonight we'll enjoy a concerto by Vivaldi, from the new album featuring mandolin virtuoso Avi Avital.

Our Mid-Day Mozart today features the Violin Concerto No. 5, from the brand-new release by young virtuoso Hilary Hahn.  

According to legend, Tintagel Castle, on the rocky Cornish coast in England, is the birthplace of King Arthur.  We'll visit it tonight with an impression by Arnold Bax.
