Stamford Symphony Presents a Daughter's Moving Tribute

Eckart Preu, The Stamford Symphony's Music Director, says young British composer, Anna Clyne is going to be someone to watch in the future.  Saturday, Nov 9th, and Sunday, Nov 10th, the Orchestra is presenting Clyne's moving tribute to her mother, "Within her Arms" for strings.  Kate Remington spoke with Eckart Preu about this haunting piece, and other music on the program.

Historic Conn. flood central to new novel

We are Water by Wally Lamb

Fifty years ago, a massive flood devastated the city of Norwich, Connecticut.

In March of 1963, a dam at the city’s largest park collapsed and millions of gallons of water flooded the area, causing several deaths. 

Author Wally Lamb grew up in Norwich. He's used the flood as a jumping off point for his latest novel, We Are Water. It's  set in the fictional town of Three Rivers,  based on Norwich and nearby New London and Willimantic

Friends, family show support for activist held in Russia

Nearly 70 people gathered in Norwalk, Connecticut on Saturday night to hold a candle-light vigil in support of a local man who is being held by the Russian government.

Environmental activist Peter Willcox is the captain of a Greenpeace ship. He and his crew were apprehended when they tried to put a banner on a Russian oil platform to protest drilling in the Arctic.

Haskell Small Makes a Journey in Silence

Over the next couple of years, pianist and composer Haskell Small will be exploring music that is quiet, spacious and mystical.  His current concert program explores the thoughtful "Musica Callada", or "Silent Music" of Spanish Composer Federico Mompou.  Small will be at the Benedictine Grange in West Redding on Saturday, Oct 26th at 7:30pm.  Kate Remington spoke with Small about Mompou's rarely-heard music.
