Speaker Sharkey supports local property tax on colleges and hospitals

The Speaker of the Connecticut House of Representatives said on Wednesday he’s in favor of allowing municipalities to tax college and hospital properties. Such institutions are currently exempt from local property taxes because they are non-profits.

Schneiderman takes another swing at high speed traders

New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman took aim at high speed stock  traders again Wednesday. He announced what he called an "agreement" with a newswire service to stop giving information to high speed stock traders before traditional traders. This is the latest in Schneiderman's campaign against what he calls "insider trading 2.0 "

Suffolk bans tobacco sales to those under 21

Suffolk County has increased the minimum age for buying tobacco and e-cigarettes from 19 to 21 years old.  The bill, passed Tuesday evening, was pushed by health advocates who say it will reduce youth’s access to cigarettes.
